15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s sporting success is a witness to all. The young cricketer has become the first player in IPL history to win five major individual awards in a single season. While his scorecard is what the world sees, behind the Baby Boss’ recording-breaking hits are the many sacrifices his family, especially his father, made.

“All this is because of my father”

The young cricketer once recalled his practice days with his father. “All this is because of my father. Since childhood, he has made me practise so much that if I do not practise even for a day, it feels like my life has slowed down a bit,” he said to JioStar. Sooryavanshi’s gratitude towards his father is heard aloud in his words. He acknowledges his father’s and family’s role in shaping his journey.

“Sangharsh hum kiye, mehnat vo bohot kiya”

His father’s words also highlight the discipline and routine him and his son followed. In a 2024 interview with Bihar Tak, Sanjeev Sooryavanshi revealed that even during the COVID-19 lockdown, he made sure his son continued practising. Whether it was under the scorching sun, during heavy rains, or within the confines of their home, the focus remained the same. “Vo chahta tha ki khilaaein toh hum khilaate the,” his father said at the time.“Sangharsh hum kiye, mehnat vo bohot kiya” (“I struggled, but he did the hardwork”), said Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s father, who himself was an aspiring cricketer once. Reflecting on his role in Vaibhav’s journey, he added, “Hum toh papa hain, duniya ke sab papa apne beta ke liye sochte hain ki jo khoob achha padh likh ke beta collector bane… khelne wala India ke liye khele… Hamara bhi vahi chah tha,” he said, noting that like every parent, he had always dreamed of seeing his child achieve something meaningful in life.

The family’s sacrifices were not just personal, but also financial

In 2025, when Vaibhav Sooryanshi became the youngest cricketer ever to be picked by a franchise as Rajasthan Royals bought him for 1.10 crore rupees, his father was lost for words, and in the path of emotions revealed a big sacrifice his family made to fund their child’s cricket dream. While speaking to PTI, he said emotionally, “Aapko kya bataye humne toh apna zameen tak bech diya. Abhi halat pura sudhra nahi” (“I have sold my land. Financial issues are still there”).

A sportsman father’s priceless advice to his son

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s father’s priceless advice to his sportsman sonWhile speaking to JioStar recently, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi revealed a priceless advice his first coach i.e. his father gave him as a sportsman himself. “”Since childhood, my father has always told me that if you score a hundred, a double hundred, or even a triple hundred, but the team does not win because of it, then those runs hold no value. They may only be for your personal record, but they do not benefit the team. Cricket, in the end, is a team game,” Sooryavanshi shared while speaking to JioStar. His message to his son is that personal milestones in the game mean little if they don’t contribute to the team’s victory.Beyond the records, the young prodigy’s journey also highlights some beautiful parenting lessons. Certainly, not every child can become a professional athlete, nor can every parent sell his land to fund those dreams. However, Sooryavanshi’s journey highlights how his father believed in his child’s dream from an early age. He didn’t just provide resources, he also consistently showed up for his child and kept unwavering faith in him.
